Mayhem 2013 starts at the end of June, and John 5 has been busy rehearsing with his Rob Zombie bandmates to bring one of the best live shows out there back onto the festival stage. Pittsburgh Music Magazine have conducted an audio interview with John 5. Taking time from the pre-Mayhem production work in L.A. John 5 talks about the experience of the Rockstar Mayhem Festival and what Rob Zombie and company have in store, winning the best guitarist award at The Revolver Golden God Awards, the new Rob Zombie LP Venomous Rat Regeneration Vendor, having some guitars and personal items stolen from his home, solo work, and working with David Lee Roth.

At last week’s Revolver Magazine Golden Gods awards in LA, Rob Zombie and his bandmates – Piggy D, John 5 and Ginger Fish – were interviewed on the ‘Black Carpet’ before the show started. Rob Zombie was honored with this years “Golden God” award while his guitarist John 5 won the Best Guitarist accolade.

HAUNTING MEMORIES: JOHN5 AND PIGGY D
Piggy D. plays bass for Rob Zombie, as well as having his own great solo project and work with the band Black Foxx. He’s also a graphic designer and artist, having designed the cover for a Lita Ford album, among others. His debut solo album, The Evacuation Plan, is worth checking out, and songs like “Locust Dance” and “God Save the Queen Bee” are killer. You’ll be able to hear and see his bass playing prowess on his current tour with Rob Zombie.
John Lowery was given the nickname John 5 the day he joined Marilyn Manson’s band. A versatile session guitarist known for his speed as well as his keen goth fashion sense (imagine Brandon Lee in The Crow), after moving to L.A. at 18 he scored high-profile gigs touring with Lita Ford and k.d. lang based on his work scoring soundtracks and commercials with producer Bob Marlette. In the first video you will see an interview, in the second a demonstration of John 5 creating his “Clean Chorus” TonePrint for the Corona Chorus TonePrint pedal , in the third you will see John 5 demonstrating the ‘warble’ effect on the Toneprint and finally you will see John 5′s tip of the day.
Earlier in the year Eddie Trunk of That Metal Show, caught up with John 5 at the last show of the Rob Zombie/Megadeth tour which was at this years Rocklahoma.

CMM: Who was the guitarist that made you want to play guitar and why guitar?
J5:I used to watch a lot of tv back in the day so I’d say it was the Monkees, the TV show “Hee Haw” and I just really liked the guitar and I was very taken back by that so I think that’s what made me want to start playing guitar first, but my first guitar heros were Ace Frehley, Jimi Hendrix, and Eddie Van Halen, they took it to the next level for me.
