Another interview ahead of the Sellersville, PA show on February 10th, this time with the Morning Call who talk in depth with John 5 about the making of the “It’s Alive” album, including why he decided to release it on vinyl; “What a fun thing. Let’s put it out on vinyl because it really feels like an old-time record,” he says. “Because there was no overdubs; there wasn’t anything done to this record. So it really feels like one of those old-school records. And that’s why I was, like, ‘Let’s put it out on vinyl. It’ll be fun for people to have“.

John 5 also talks about his relationship with Rob Zombie “…the guy’s taught me so much about the business, and he’s taught me so much in general. So I’m thankful for him“.

John 5 and The Creatures will make a return run to Sellersville, PA, to play in the venue that is the birth-place of the “It’s Alive” album. He speaks to the Philly Voice about how it came to be, what he’s learnt from the many front-men he has supported and more.

From Philly Voice:

He [John 5] was surprised when a Sellersville sound engineer asked him two years ago if he would like his show recorded.

“I said, ‘Yes, no problem. That would be cool.’ It was a privilege to record at the Sellersville Theater. It’s so close to Philadelphia, but it’s just outside the city and it has its own vibe going on. It’s a charming place. I love playing the intimate venues with great acoustics.”

[Review] John 5 and The Creatures are “absolutely masterful”.

John 5 and The Creatures review tour Ink19

John 5 and The Creatures review tour Ink19

Ink19.com were at The Social in Orlando, FL on February 1, to see John 5 and The Creatures on their “It’s Alive” tour.

The entire troupe was absolutely masterful – playing more precisely than most people can even think. For his part, J5 slayed ’em all – big guitars, little guitars, banjos too. And he wowed the faithful further when attacking an oil-filled, clear acrylic Telecaster with a violin bow, a la Jimmy Page. But he “closed” the deal with a unique, retina-searing, multi laser-shooting Telecaster. Truly impressive.”

[REVIEW] It’s Alive “is one hell of a good time.”

Season of the Witch It's Alive John 5 and The Creatures

Season of the Witch It's Alive John 5 and The Creatures

Our friends over at Metal Assault have reviewed the brand new John 5 and The Creatures album “It’s Alive”.

They give the album a 10 out of 10 rating and say the following of the release:

‘It’s Alive!’ is a fun record, some of the most fun I’ve had listening to a record in recent memory. Just as a live experience should be, John 5 captures the energy of seeing a top-notch live performance. The live renditions manage to both capture and enhance the experience involved within the studio recordings, it really feels like you’re listening to the songs with a fresh shine on it. ‘It’s Alive!’ is a brand new experience regardless of how many times you’ve heard John 5 and the Creatures’ body of work.

[Review] It’s Alive shows “John 5 and the Creatures are the real deal”.

John 5 and The Creatures Live album 2018

John 5 and The Creatures Live album 2018

Our friends at MORTIS MEDIA, have posted a review of the brand new album from John 5 and The Creatures: “It’s Alive”.

To call J5 a “good” guitar player is an understatement. He approaches the double edged sword of playing a show where he, the guitarist, is the center of the action for the whole show without the burden/safety net of a frontman to keep the crowd’s attention. His fretboard pyrotechnics mixed with the ferocity of his backing band leave no question of who is in control here….

If you can’t make a show, get It’s Alive! and you’ll know John 5 and the Creatures are the real deal, too. ”

John 5 101 WRIF

John 5 recently chatted to the team at WRIF Rocks Detroit’s Meltdown Radio Chatter.

From Meltdown:

I’m really pumped to give you this edition of Radio Chatter. I’ve interviewed John a few times and he never fails to entertain and enlighten. He is one of the most positive guys in this business. I think he wakes up every day pinching himself that he gets to do this for a living and gets to call some of his childhood rock-star heroes, friends. Of course, I had to ask him about how the new Zombie record was coming along….John could not contain his excitement. So excited he compared it to a Beatle record! He talked about how they wrote songs this time around as opposed to the past albums. He told me what he got Rob for his birthday this past week, he explained the crazy story about how he decided to record a live album, scoring films, and a lot more. Oh, he also tells me about a pretty gross ‘Spinal Tap’ moment that might have been TMI. LOL

Metal Nation reviews “It’s Alive”

John 5 and The Creatures Live album 2018

John 5 and The Creatures Live album 2018

Check out this review from Metal Nation about the forthcoming John 5 and The Creatures live album “It’s Alive” out on January 25th.

As always, John 5 has exceeded my expectations and in addition to the Creatures, it is quite frankly a masterpiece. Bassist Ian Ross and drummer Logan Miles Nix cannot be a better fit for John. It is rare to find a bassist who stands out with incredible talent, especially next to one of the greatest guitarists of all time, in my opinion. I have watched enough John 5 and the Creatures videos to become a Ross fan. He is exciting to watch, extremely talented, and sometimes even will steal the show. Logan Miles Nix sets the perfect beat to songs that I cannot imagine would be easy to play. (I am not a drummer, so I do not know). The frequent changes in the music sound complex, but Nix breezes through it as if he is playing at a high school dance. Flawless.”

[Interview] J5 speaks to Syracuse.com ahead of his Valentines Day show

From Syracuse.com:

Celebrated guitarist John 5 can pinpoint the moment he knew what he wanted to do with his life.

At age seven, John Lowery watched a young Jimmy Henley play banjo on a family variety show called “Hee Haw.” He knew then he had to learn this instrument. Then the guitar. Then the mandolin.

Once he started, he couldn’t stop. Today, he’s an expert in all three.

“It’s crazy there’s this exact moment when I realized I wanted to play,” said John, 47, in a call to syracuse.com. “It changed my life.”
