Venomous Rat Regeneration Vendor<\/em>\u00a0(his third Zombie album in that role).<\/p>\n“Sometimes it\u2019s tough.\u00a0 It\u2019s not an easy writing process… For this record, true story, I came in and I had a ton of riffs.\u00a0 I had just a ton of stuff.\u00a0 And I went to Connecticut with Bob Marlette, our producer, and I just played [Rob] all these riffs and he goes, ‘Well… We better start writing now’ and I was like ‘Oh man!’ \u00a0You never know what he\u2019s gonna want to do so it\u2019s not always an easy process\u2026 Which I like! \u00a0He has a vision of what he wants and you never know what he\u2019s gonna say” says\u00a0John 5.<\/p>\n
The new album features a much heavier vibe, thanks largely in part to both John 5’s writing and playing. \u00a0Rob Zombie\u00a0himself has asserted that, in his opinion, it brings together the worlds of White Zombie and Rob Zombie better than any of his other solo projects.<\/p>\n
“It reminds me of White Zombie big time (me being such a fan of White Zombie back in the day)” concurs John 5. \u00a0“If someone said, ‘Here\u2019s the White Zombie record that we never released,’ I wouldn\u2019t have guessed any different. \u00a0I would’ve been like ‘Oh, rad.’ \u00a0So it really does remind me of something like that.”<\/p>\n
As evidenced by his solo material, the guitar work of John 5 spans a variety of genres (not just hard rock for which he’s most well known) and he found inspiration in an unlikely source.<\/p>\n
“I wanted to play guitar after seeing the\u00a0Hee Haw<\/em>\u00a0show.\u00a0 I always watched\u00a0Hee Haw<\/em>\u00a0and I would see these guys playing these telecasters and I was like ‘I want to play electric guitar’… I think that\u2019s why I\u2019m so driven to the telecaster as well” explains the guitarist.<\/p>\nFrom a musical household, Lowery began playing the guitar at only seven years of age.<\/p>\n
“Growing up, I had older sisters, my parents were into music, so I listened to anything.\u00a0 Anything and everything. \u00a0If there was cool guitar work, for some reason, I always focused on it.\u00a0 My Dad really liked Chet Atkins and Roy Clark and stuff like that so I was like ‘Wow, listen to all that guitar playing!’ \u00a0I was really interested in the guitar at a young age and that\u2019s why I think my styles are so diverse” he continues.<\/p>\n
In addition to work on Rob Zombie’s solo projects, John 5 also scored Zombie’s sixth feature film,\u00a0The Lords of Salem<\/em>\u00a0in 2012 (scheduled to arrive on DVD in September). \u00a0And another solo project is already in the works. \u00a0But for right now, the focus remains solely on touring the\u00a0Venomous Rat Regeneration Vendor<\/em>\u00a0album via the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival.<\/p>\n“I want to say (I asked Rob if I could talk about this), White Zombie, [even] Rob Zombie\u2019s solo career, has never done a DVD [or] a live concert. \u00a0We\u2019re gonna record our show, a live concert, and release it. \u00a0So with this massive stage show, everyone\u2019s gonna be able to see it… Come and check out the show.\u00a0 You won\u2019t be disappointed, that\u2019s for sure.”<\/p>\n
