Rob Zombie has been a cult favourite in music and film for over a decade. Romancing a mix of horror and metal is definitely a seductive trait that has created a ravenous yet loyal following. With the recent release of their fifth studio album\u00a0<\/span>Venomous Rat Regeneration Vendor<\/i>\u00a0and their second Soundwave Festival now under their belt, Rob Zombie embark on a US\/UK tour and prepare to release their first tour DVD\u00a0<\/span>Zombie Horror Picture Show<\/i>.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

During the recent Melbourne Soundwave Festival, Metal Obsession had the pleasure of kicking off a day of interviews with Rob Zombie guitarist John 5; a legend in his own right who also has a very distinguished solo career.<\/p>\n

Metal Obsession: How are you enjoying the Soundwave festival?<\/b><\/p>\n

John 5:<\/strong>\u00a0I love Soundwave. Look at all these people, there\u2019s rides, there\u2019s bands playing, there\u2019s food, there\u2019s everything you could ever want. You know I\u2019ve said it before, but it\u2019s like a heavy metal summer camp. All your friends are here, it\u2019s a blast, the weather is amazing. There\u2019s not one bad thing about it.<\/p>\n

MO: Has anything of note happened so far?<\/b><\/p>\n

J5:<\/strong>\u00a0Last night was fun. We all went out to eat then we went to watch Devil\u2019s Rejects. They had a big movie premiere thing.<\/p>\n

MO: The Q&A?<\/strong><\/p>\n

J5:<\/strong>\u00a0Yeah the Q&A, not the premiere. That was really fun.<\/p>\n

MO: Rob Zombie released their fifth studio album\u00a0Venomous Rat Regeneration Vendor\u00a0<\/i>in April of last year, how would you describe the record to people who might not know much about your music?<\/b><\/p>\n

J5:<\/strong>\u00a0I would say it\u2019s a very live aggressive record but it\u2019s got a lot of really good songs and I think that\u2019s what\u2019s most important. You have to have good songs, that\u2019s what keeps us doing what we\u2019re doing. It\u2019s got a really cool cover of \u201cAmerican Band\u201d on it. The album has been very well received by the public, we\u2019re just having a good time. We\u2019re not all mean and grouchy and yelling at the crowd, we have a lot of crowd interaction and they really like that. We\u2019re treating it as a big party, you know, as a big Zombie party. People love it. The crowd is just going crazy for it and we\u2019re loving it too.<\/p>\n

MO: You recorded in 2012, any plans for a new album yet or are you taking a bit of a break from recording?<\/b><\/p>\n

J5:<\/strong>\u00a0What we\u2019re doing, which is really cool, and for the first time in Rob Zombie history, we\u2019re putting out a concert DVD. It comes out in May and I\u2019m so excited about it. It looks amazing. It looks so good;\u00a0Zombie Horror Picture Show<\/i>. It is so cool, it captures all the craziness of a concert. And then a couple of months ago I went to Rob\u2019s and we recorded a bunch of new ideas, so we\u2019re always working. There\u2019s always stuff going on.<\/p>\n

MO: How much input did you have in the writing process?<\/b><\/p>\n

J5:<\/strong>\u00a0Well I was a writer on all the songs except for American Band. So what we\u2019ll do is we\u2019ll get together and I\u2019ll play Rob some stuff and he\u2019ll say, \u201cyay or nay\u201d, or \u201cdo this change that\u201d. We really work really well together. It\u2019s been nine years now, it\u2019s crazy to say that.<\/p>\n

MO: That\u2019s great that you have such a good relationship.<\/strong><\/p>\n

J5:<\/strong>\u00a0Yeah it is rare. I talk to him everyday, I\u2019d talk to him everyday if I wasn\u2019t in the band, we just get along so well together. I wouldn\u2019t change it for the world. The grass is not always greener that\u2019s for sure.<\/p>\n
