Careful With That Axe,\u00a0<\/em>John 5\u2019s\u00a0eighth studio album, shows the current Rob Zombie guitarist at the height of his chicken pickin\u2019, guitar shreddin\u2019 powers. Most instrumental albums end up sounding like cheesy vanity projects, but John 5 has always had a fun, albeit macabre, sense of humor (check out album opener \u201cWe Need To Have A Talk About John”) that makes him feel more like a down-to-earth guitar player than an egocentric virtuoso.<\/p>\nOver the course of 30 minutes, Mr. 5 jumps from modern metal (\u201cThis Is My Rifle\u201d and \u201cThe Dream Slayer\u201d) to country-fried acoustic cuts (\u201cJerry\u2019s Breakdown\u201d and \u201cJiffy Jam\u201d) and even pulls out a beautiful, fleet-fingered flamenco composition from his bag of tricks (\u201cEl Cucuy\u201d).
