John 5 to play Strange 80’s 2 charity event in October

Strange 80's 2

John 5 will be joining a host of stars, to appear at the second annual Strange 80’s Benefit show, on Friday, October 12 at the Fonda Theatre in LA, CA.

About the event:

“Strange 80s is an annual benefit show at the Fonda Theatre in Los Angeles which features a rotating cast of the biggest marquis talent and emerging artists in rock, performing songs from the world’s favorite decade, the 80s. Strange incorporates musicians, comedians and cast members from the latest binge-worthy series in pop-culture. It’s the only platform to see unfathomable supergroups comprised of members from stalwart bands. Slipknot, Fall Out Boy, The Regrettes and Nsynch, meshed into one playing a song the whole world can sing along to, or an obscure track that takes you back to that glorious time. Or for those who don’t know what life was like without a cell phone, let the song and the vibe explain it.”

100% of the proceeds raised each year go to a different cause. This years charity beneficiary is 320 Changes Direction, (co-founded by Chester Bennington’s widow Talinda – #ChangeMentalHealth) which helps those who suffer from mental health, depression and addiction issues. This years stars include, Scott Ian, Corey Taylor, Dave Kushner, Adrian Young and Gary Holt, among others.

As well as music, there is an arcade installation of authentic ’80s video games, and exclusive opportunities to interact with some of your favorite artists. Special meet-and-greets are also available to bid on through Charitybuzz and fans will also be able to bid on a variety of donated items and experiences  – see some of the auctions already online here: charitybuzz.com/support/CharityBomb.

John 5’s debut solo album ‘Vertigo” is 14 years old

On August 31, 2004, John 5 released his very first solo album to the world: Vertigo.

The album was a mixture of the infamous Drop-D tuning style 5 was already known for, and his love for Bluegrass. The different styling brought a whole new type of fan to John 5’s work as well as enthralling existing fans who appreciated the different styling.

To celebrate, please watch the GOD IS CLOSED official video which was released at the time. Originally sitting at john-5.com, the video, which features “live” performances from John 5 on a number of tracks from Vertigo amongst a number of vintage movie/TV clips, was then available to purchase via the Japanese version of Vertigo.*

*Please excuse the low-quality of the video. We had to track down a copy of it ourselves, and rip it from the CD, to put back up online.

Enjoy the video and let us know what your thoughts were when you first heard the album in the comments section (click “Read more” to leave a comment >>> Read the rest of this page »
