John 5: Wired and Inspired with Premier Guitar
On May 15th John 5 will be the featured cover star of Premier Guitar magazine. Before that he took part in the magazine’s Wired and Inspired feature.

“John 5 uses his solo albums to showcase his mastery of diverse styles, although his standout non-metal style is country. He’s as comfortable fingerpicking, mimicking a banjo, and executing complex chord/melody arrangements as he is doing sliding arpeggios, sweep picking, and 7-finger tapping. That versatility has served him well. In addition to metal, his curriculum vitae includes recordings and tours with such diverse artists as k.d. lang, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Rod Stewart, and Meat Loaf.
We spoke with John 5 about his roots, practice techniques, learning disparate styles of music, using less distortion to get heavier tones, and how he created some of the crazier sounds on Season of the Witch. As you’ll see reading this interview, John 5’s excitement is contagious. He’s an amazing guitarist, but an even more inspiring person.”

[Interview] John 5 talks to the Huffington Post: “I appreciate and love music so much. This album is really who I am”.
One of the last dates on the Season of the Witch tour saw John 5 returning to his home state of Michigan. Ahead of that show he had a chat with the Huffington Post.
“As much as his collaborations have varied, his own solo material runs the gamut even more displaying influences of everything from heavy metal and hard rock all the way to country and bluegrass.
Recently, John 5 released his solo project Season of the Witch, an album he rolled out in an interesting fashion by releasing music videos first before any of the actual music. I got to chat with John 5 recently about growing up in Michigan, why he took that route releasing his music, and the differences in making his own music compared writing for others.”

The Season of the Witch tour came to an end just under a week ago but during that time, John 5 chatted to the legendary Fangoria.

This weekend, John 5 will be returning to his home state to play with The Creatures at The Token Lounge in Westland MI. Ahead of that show, WRIF Rocks Detroit chatted to John.

“We talked about his early days and what shaped his love for playing intimate venues, his recent night out with Gene Simmons and Ace Frehley of KISS, guitarists that he’s jammed with and lots more. Having a son in his early teens like me I had to get his take on Robert Trujillo’s 12 year old son, Tye, touring with Korn through South America. “But I love the stage experience. I love playing music with people really close up. I do enjoy playing in front of the crowds with the Rob stage, but the front row is 50 feet away sometimes. In a small show, I can put my head down and it can rest on someone’s head. Those are cool things. I love that stuff.
Because when I was a kid, I would go so people that were in major bands that were playing tiny shows, in small clubs. And I will never, ever forget those shows.”

On April 7, John 5 and The Creatures will be taking their Season of the Witch tour to Blackthorn 51 in Queens. John 5 will be in Dallas this weekend at Trees with The Creatures for his Season of the Witch tour. Ahead of the show, John 5 had a chat with the Dallas Observer.
In the interview, John 5 talks about how amazed he is with the turnout from fans for the show. He also talks about why he is comfortable playing the smaller venues on this tour: “Maybe because I have the best of both worlds, but I don’t really mind playing small venues,” he says. “When I was growing up, I would go see major artists in small clubs in Hollywood. They would get together and go play. I always thought that was so special and such a cool experience. I just love playing and I love having a guitar in my hands.”

John 5 and The Creatures are currently on tour in support of their new album Season of the Witch, which came out on March 3rd.
Over the weekend, the band played at the DNA Lounge in San Francisco and SF Sonic were there to watch and review the show.

“The show was one killer guitar lick after another accompanied by wardrobe/accessory changes and of course multiple axe changes through out the show. There were many styles of guitars, each suited to the perfect song and a fun theatrical experience that comes from a John 5 show. There were lights, co2 cannons, masks, fog, light up guitars, a lava liquid filled guitar, tiny ones and banjo styles.”
